A personal path
into politics

State Representative Danielle Friel Otten is a mother, businesswoman, community leader and champion for working families who has called Chester County home for over two decades.

Danielle Friel Otten’s Story

Born and raised in Philadelphia, she moved to Chester County to attend college at West Chester University. She fell in love with the rolling countryside, small town boroughs, and community-focused life.

Danielle has spent most of her professional career in marketing and hospitality and has served on the executive teams of some of Philadelphia’s most notable hospitality brands.

As the former owner of a retail shop in downtown West Chester, Danielle understands the impact that decisions made in Harrisburg have on the small businesses at the heart of our communities and local economies.

Danielle’s path to the legislature was paved by leading a community-based coalition for public safety, private property rights, and environmental justice in Exton, PA.

The Mariner East Pipeline

When Danielle heard that the Mariner East pipeline would send highly explosive natural gas liquids through her neighbor’s yard, just feet from where her children play, she knew she had to act.

Danielle was integral in establishing the Uwchlan Safety Coalition and Del-Chesco United Pipeline Safety. These coalitions advocate at the local and state level to ensure that Pennsylvania legislators do their job to protect public health and safety, and to safeguard private property rights.

Danielle’s Victory in 2018

In 2018, Danielle launched a vigorous and successful grass-roots campaign to oust the republican incumbent, who received campaign contributions from the companies behind the Mariner East pipeline.

Danielle knocked on tens of thousands of doors and built a coalition of voters who were tired of Big Oil seizing their private property, stealing their peace of mind, and bankrolling politicians who favored the polluters’ interests over those of local constituents.

Her successful campaign was fueled by small donations and a volunteer army of concerned citizens. Danielle does not accept any campaign contributions from corporate PACs and cannot be bought by corporate interests.
